I started from my home. No fancy equipments, no staff, no structure. I just started as a passion project and it was all about cooking,  I would post pictures of the meals I cooked, people who knew me and had always asked me to open a restaurant, started reaching out, placing orders. From these orders  I used  the revenue to open a business account and the rest is history.

Can you tell us your most Challenging experience as a Chef?

Logistics is the major challenge in the kind of business we are in. At the height of it we had 12  Dispatch bikes but now, we have 8. So we have streamlined and focused our service.

(Listen to her podcast to find out how she handles her numerous orders daily).

Where do you see your brand in 5yr?

Probably have a brick and mortar walk-in restaurant and a catering school.

Why do you think most food business owners fail?

  • Many business owners don’t do their figures well. They calculate profit based on money made after taking out  the cost of recipe/material procurement without factoring the indirect cost.
  • Most people want to serve everybody and sales volume is not profit unless reflected in cash value; time is money and time wastage is loss of money.
  • In addition, If cooking doesn’t come from inside, you really can’t get it right – cooking is almost spiritual.

What advice would you give someone starting up?

  • Even if you have the money to spend in business, seek professional training in Entrepreneurship.
  • Being able to get a shop and open a business doesn’t mean you can run that business successfully.
  • Don’t borrow money to put in a business you don’t understand its cons and pros.
